The Language People is a Brisbane-based specialist language bookshop providing language learning books, language teaching resources, TESOL materials, and educational publications to learners, teachers, schools, and institutions across Australia.
The Language People is dedicated to supporting language learners, educators, schools, universities, and training organizations with high-quality resources designed to inspire learning and build confidence through language.
Our story began with the original Language People bookshop, a much-loved fixture of Brisbane’s West End community for more than 25 years. Known for its extensive range of language textbooks, dictionaries, readers, and teaching resources, it became a trusted destination for language learners and educators throughout Queensland and beyond. In 2012, the store closed following the retirement of its owner and co-founder, Lyndal Reid, leaving a significant gap in the language-learning community.
Recognizing the importance of preserving this unique resource, The Language People was re-established with a vision to continue supporting language education in Australia. What began as an online bookshop soon evolved into a physical store once again, carrying forward the legacy of the original business while adapting to the needs of modern learners, teachers, and institutions.
Today, we offer a carefully curated selection of language learning books, language textbooks, graded readers, dictionaries, grammar guides, exam preparation materials, and TESOL resources. We also provide professional teaching resources for educators working in schools, universities, adult education, and vocational education and training (VET) environments.
